The Many Faces of Brokk Operators: Keith

Who are you, and how long have you worked with Brokk?

Hi my Name is Keith Morrow, I am the managing director of Euro Diamond Drilling based out of North London.

I’m 44 and have worked with Brokk robots since 2010. Back then we started with a Brokk 90 and have progressed to build a large fleet spanning the entire Brokk range from Brokk70’s to Brokk900’s.

Career Progression

I started piling in Ireland in 2002 and became the youngest CFA pilling rig operator at 23. I then moved to the UK in 2008 due to not much work in Ireland. I started at EDD in 2009 to help with a special project to do with piling.

I worked my way to contracts manager in 2011 helping with the concrete cutting and robotic side of the business. I purchased the business in 2020. The business has gone from a 3 million turnover In year 2020 To 9 million turnover in 2026.

What do you enjoy about working with Brokk robots and what is their strong point?

I enjoy working with Brokks mainly for the size to power ratio. In the right hands there isn’t much a Brokk can’t do. Brokk’s allowed this business to move into much larger projects such as infra-structure tunnels/Mines/Shafts and large Civils works. In my experience you don’t truly see the full power of any size of Brokk until they’re working to full capacity in reinforced concrete.

From your experience what makes Brokk robots stand out from other demolition equipment?

We have always used Brokk due to their power and reliability which is second to none. The hammer supplied seems to be a natural part of the machine along with the Darda attachments Brokk have helped to design. The new smart power technology is a big improvement which I don’t see in any other robots on the market.

What do consider the main benefits of using Brokk demolition robots?

For me personally is the confidence of knowing you have the breaking power to handle any structure strength in any environment. With the smallest size to the largest I know there’s nothing out there that break quicker or more efficient than a Brokk.

Is there a specific aspect of operating, owning, hiring or maintaining Brokk robots you find personally rewarding?

I enjoy owning Brokks because of the amount of different aspects of work you can carry out with them. From breaking, munching digging and drilling there really isn’t much they can’t do in the tight spaces you often are asks by clients to carry out these works. Also, I find it satisfying to know that with the smaller Brokks it has reduced the HAVS exposure to other trades by taking away the hand breaking works that years ago we wouldn’t of thought of, especially in the tunnelling environments.

How does the precision and control offered by Brokk robots impact on the quality of your work?

It has helped our work no end, knowing that with such power offered you really can break to the cut line due to the mobility of the operator’s view. As the Brokks are controlled remotely the operator can see exactly what they are doing from all angles. As we carry out lots of tunnelling Cross passage works being able to break to the tunnelling profile is much easier now using Brokks due to the view of the operator and power giving by all attachments, breaking or rock-wheeling.

How would you compare operating, owning, hiring or maintaining Brokk robots to using traditional demolition equipment?

It’s their size to power ratio, with traditional demolition size means everything, not with Brokk!! We find you can carry out as much if not more productivity with a machine which weighs less than a quarter of the traditional machines mean you can use them anywhere be it high up or low down!!

Have you noticed any improvements in safety or speed compared to other machine?

The 1st Brokk I ever operated was a Brokk90, now we use the Brokk70 which offers the full 360 slew which has helped to operator a lot in tight spaces. Brokk have certainly got a lot quicker with the new smart power options, if noticed the Brokk 200 is a lot quicker than say the Brokk1800 but still offers the power of a 15 ton 360 excavator.

How would you describe the feeling of operating, owning, hiring or maintaining Brokk robots? Does it give you a sense of confidence or control?

Owning Brokk has giving me and my team the confidence of known no matter what you’re asked to do we have a machine for the job. Here at EDD we have all sizes from Brokk70’s to Brokk900’s, watching them leave our yard in the morning makes me proud that we will carry out the works generally faster and more efficient than most of our clients ever would of thought of.
