Passion. It gives you a sense of purpose in knowing that what you are doing is what you love. That passion directed concrete cutters Bill Greenwood, Mark Krchmar and Frank Di Mambro to create a Facebook page (see link below) where concrete cutters, from novice to expert, can share their experiences, discuss dilemmas and receive advice. Since its development in March 2014, the Concrete Cutting Nutters Association’s Facebook page has been booming, bringing this trade to life internationally. The site caught Brokk’s attention with its frequent mentions of remote-controlled demolition machines, and we liked it so much that we became members ourselves!

“The cutting industry isn’t an easy one to understand. It’s not something you can go home and talk to your family about,” said Krchmar, project manager at Concrete Technology Services in Maryland. “That’s what makes this group so successful. We understand each other, are passionate about the industry, and genuinely want to help one another.”

The Facebook group was made by cutters, for cutters, as an outlet to connect with concrete cutters from all around the world. It’s a site where those who are new to the industry can take comfort knowing experts can give them advice by simply posting their questions on the page.

“This site is great for newcomers to come and post their questions and concerns about the cutting industry, and for others to discuss their thoughts on the equipment used and where the industry is heading,” said Greenwood, who works with Aaxiom Concrete Sawing in Massachusetts.

This online community gives fellow cutters a place to communicate about problems or issues encountered regularly on the jobsite. Members are encouraged to share their cutting techniques, give product reviews, and post pictures of their past and current projects. The growth of the site has been breathtaking, with almost 3,000 members in less than a year.

“Concrete cutters are working for recognition, something to belong to,” Krchmar said. “That is why we created this group. It’s an outlet for concrete cutters all over the world.”

The CCNA is taking steps to become officially recognized by the Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association. To learn more about CCNA, visit their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/concretecuttingnuttersassoc.
